1. Where do I get a building permit?

If you reside inside the city limits of Lafayette, call 765-807-1050.

If you reside inside the city limits of West Lafayette, call 765-775-5130.

If you reside outside any of these areas, you would be considered to be in the county, call 765-423-9225.

2. Do I need a permit for a deck?: Yes. Post holes for decks are 30" deep and for pole barns 48" deep. Post holes must be inspected before poles can be set. Please call 765-423-9225 for more information.

3. Do I need a permit for a shed?: No, as long as it is less than 120 square feet and portable. Please call 765-423-9225 for more information.

4. Do I need a permit for a sign?: Yes, in most cases. Call the Area Plan Commission at 765-423-9242 for clarification.
