Hon. Gregory J. Donat has served as judge of Tippecanoe Superior Court # 4 in Lafayette, Indiana since 1984. During his term as judge, he has been instrumental in developing Community Corrections programs that include house arrest, work release, road crew, residential center detention, and day reporting; and creating Volunteers in Probation and Victim Impact Panel programs. Judge Donat also was the sponsoring judge of the Tippecanoe County Court Services Department that court ordered treatment programs such as alcohol and drug treatment, domestic violence, shoplifting, and community service. Judge Donat initiated and is the presiding judge of the Tippecanoe County Drug Court.
Judge Donat serves on the board of directors of the American Judicature Society and is assigned to the program committee. He has served on the board of directors of the Indiana Judicial Conference and currently serves on its education committee. He presently serves on the board of managers of the Indiana judges Association. He also presently serves on an advisory board of the US Department of Justice, Office of Victims of Crimes, and Judicial Education project. Judge Donat has previously served on the Campus Rape project advisory panel.
Judge Donat has been very active at the local, state, and national level with the Pro - se and access to justice and public confidence in the judicial system projects. He was appointed by the Indiana Chief Justice to serve on the State advisory panel and in that capacity has attended a number of national conferences.
Judge Donat has been very active since 1986 in civics education and democratic development programs. Judge Donat has twice been awarded the Indiana Council for the Social Studies, " Citizens Award" and twice received the Indiana Judges Association's "Excellence in Public Information and Education " award.
Judge Donat has served on the faculty of the National Center for State Courts, National Judicial College, Indiana Judicial Center, and Indiana Continuing Education Forum.
