John Knochel has represented District 1 since 1997 when he was elected to fill a vacancy. Prior to his election as commissioner, John was a member of the Tippecanoe County Council for seven years where he served as president for two years.
John, a life long resident of Tippecanoe County, is a farmer whose family has owned and operated the Buck Creek Elevator since 1939. He is a graduate of East Tipp High School and received his B.A. in Economics from Purdue University in 1965. The father of two daughters, Kathy Graveel and Jeannette Welch, John is the proud grandfather of three. He also has served as a member of the Tippecanoe County Library Board, Washington Township Advisory Board, and was on the Tipmont REMC Board of Directors for twenty-one years.
As a member of the Board of Commissioners, John has served as president three years and is a member of various committees including the Area Plan Commission.
