Community Corrections is a community based program with the purpose of providing a Diversion from commitment to the Department of Correction (DOC) or local incarceration for the Felony offender.
Tippecanoe County Community Corrections is entering its seventeenth fiscal year of participation in the Department of Correction, Community Corrections Program. As in previous years since 1988, we continue to operate under an Indiana Department of Correction grant and project income from offenders' user fees. The purpose of the services provided by this agency is to provide alternatives to incarceration at the state and local levels for offenders referred by Circuit, Juvenile, Superior and County Courts.
BENEFITS OF A COMMUNITY BASED CORRECTIONS PROGRAM
-
Provides diversion from prison and county jail for offenders of non-violent crimes.
-
More cost effective than incarcerating offenders.
-
It gives the offender, who would otherwise go to jail or prison; the opportunity to receive assistance needed (i.e., substance abuse programs, literacy programs, etc.) to become a productive member of society in his/her own community.
-
Community agencies receive benefits of free labor.
-
Offenders make a positive contribution to the community rather than becoming a financial burden to taxpayers.
-
Offenders are forced to take responsibility for their actions. |
